Helios Wools
Environmental Benefits
Mother Nature really outdid herself when it came to wool. It is unique and complex, with natural features that man has yet to replicate. As concern for our world grows, it is nice to know that wool-a fiber that has been a source of comfort for more than 12,000 years-helps protect and sustain the earth's most precious resources.
- The wool used by Helios is grown in the open, clean pastures of New Zealand, utilizing farming techniques that preserve the health and beauty of the land for future generations
- The wool shorn from sheep is completely natural. It is composed entirely of amino acids, the building blocks of life.
- Wool is sustainable. It is produced from totally renewable resources-grass, sunshine, oxygen and water-and is thus environmentally sound.
- Wool is renewable. Sheep can be shorn every nine to twelve months, with New Zealand sheep producing the cleanest, whitest wool in the world.
- Wool is biodegradable. In soil, wool readily biodegrades to produce nitrogen, sulfur, carbon dioxide and water, which are all plant nutrients.
- New Zealand sheep produce a naturally strong and uniform fiber which, because it is exceptionally pure and white, possesses excellent dyeing characteristics that assure striking, rich, saturated color.
- The production of wool only uses between one-third and one-sixth of the energy required to produce polypropylene or nylon fiber.
